Creative-writing addendum to /llm-writing. Load when putting prose on the page: draft, revise, bridge, vary, or polish.

Instructions onlyWriting & Content
AI-generated overview

Adds a creative-writing layer for drafting, revising, bridging, varying, or polishing prose.

What it does
This skill is a creative-writing addendum meant to be loaded alongside a base writing skill. It defines prose modes — fresh draft, revision, bridge or connective tissue, alternate take, and line polish — and directs the agent to read only the matching section of its prose-modes resource. It also notes that genre is craft guidance rather than a prose mode, and points to a separate craft skill and its genre resources. It produces prose on the page rather than plans or reviews.
When to use it
Use it when the next step is actually writing prose: producing a new draft from a brief, outline, style, character state, and canon, revising an existing draft, connecting scenes, testing an alternate execution of a beat, or polishing lines after structure settles. It is not intended for planning or review work, which the document assigns to separate skills.
Requirements
Requires the base writing skill to be loaded, plus the bundled prose-modes resource file. It ships no scripts and needs no credentials or network access.

Creative Writing Modes

Load /llm-writing if it is not already loaded. This skill adds the creative-writing layer for putting prose on the page: story pressure, voice, rhythm, omission, ambiguity, genre promise, and reader simulation.

Use the smallest mode that fits the task. Read only the matching section in resources/prose-modes.md unless the prompt explicitly asks for a hybrid pass.

Load style and character state before writing a character. If the request contradicts character state, write to the request, note the contradiction, and do not update character state.

Prose Modes

  • Fresh draft — new prose from a brief, outline, style, character state, and canon.
  • Revision — change an existing draft from author direction or critique.
  • Bridge / connective tissue — connect scenes, compress time, or shift register.
  • Alternate take — test a meaningfully different execution of the same beat.
  • Line polish — improve rhythm, precision, and texture after structure settles.

Genre Resources

Genre is craft guidance, not a prose mode. When genre expectations shape the pass, load /creative-writing-craft and the relevant resource under resources/genre/ there.

Boundary

This is not a planning or review skill. Use /story-planning before there is a page to write. Use /story-review, /reader-sim, and continuity checking when the page needs judgment. Return here when the next step is to write the prose.
